Did you ever think that buying a candy bar for yourself could help feed someone else? In these difficult times, more people than ever are in need of food assistance. A study done by Feeding America revealed that for many working class families, receiving emergency food from pantries is becoming the norm rather than a way to meet a temporary need.

Feeding America teamed up with Snickers and comedian/actor Jim Gaffigan to help get food to those in need. Gaffigan went “joke free” to raise awareness for hunger, and Snickers donated meals for every Snickers Bar code that consumers texted to them. To get the word out, MediaTracks aired an audio news release featuring Gaffigan in our syndicated program Viewpoints.

Are you still counting on that daily dose of vitamin C to ward off the flu? The holidays are coming, and a Walgreens’ survey suggests more than 3 million of us will have our vacations spoiled by a flu-related illness this year alone. Vacations aren’t the only thing spoiled though– kids missed 32 million days of school last year because of the flu, and illness also often leads to canceled business trips for adults.

In 2010, as flu season ramped up, Walgreens was looking for a way to let customers know they could get their flu shots at Walgreens stores nationwide without an appointment. MediaTracks created a series of audio news releases touting the benefits of receiving your flu shot (along with the ease of getting one) all from the knowledgeable perspective of a respected Walgreen’s pharmacist. The series was so successful Walgreens signed on for a similar series in 2011.

Studies show, as little as 30 minutes of walking per day can help reduce your risk of heart disease, cancer and diabetes. It’s no secret walking is good for your health but surprisingly, our society today is walking less than ever before – contributing to record-high obesity rates. The department of health and human services says more than two-thirds of adults in our country are overweight or obese. Walgreens, with a health initiative focused on prevention and early detection of today’s leading diseases, hopes to reverse the trend through a national walking movement. Walk with Walgreens aims to get Americans walking more on the road to better health, providing healthy rewards for every step you take.
